With online sales and e-commerce ever growing, the demand for logistics space far outstrips the supply, and investment in this market has grown significantly over the last few years. With rising costs, low margins and a shortage of available space, investment in resource-efficient and environmentally sound solutions is key.
Existing buildings pose the biggest problem, but switching to more efficient lighting can significantly reduce energy requirements and measuring and optimising processes can improve efficiency. Tenant engagement plays a vital role in this segment, since the direct control of the landlord is very restricted due to the industry-specific lease agreements. For new construction, on-site or local renewable energy and combining heat and power can provide large savings.
